Do I really need therapy and is therapy right for me?

Sometimes people can handle life stressors on their own. However, we are all human and can benefit from support from time to time. Working with a therapist can provide you with new tools, coping strategies, and provide a fresh perspective to life's challenges. Even therapist see therapists, in order to stay on top of their game. Seeking assistance is a sign of strength. Working with a therapist can provide you with a fresh outlook and help you let go of patterns which no longer serve you. It can help you discover solutions to your problems and  help you move forward in your life, where perhaps you have felt a sense of being "stuck". In short, anyone can benefit from therapy.

What is therapy like?

Therapy is personal process. Therefore, it will be different for each individual. Clients and therapists work on mutually developed goals, in order to make the most out of each session. Therapy is a collaborative process. Some of the things you can expect when working with a therapist are discussing your present situation, what brings you to therapy, and history that relates to your current situation. I am trained in a variety of modalities, and I present a variety of interventions we can use, and together we choose which one(s) are best for you. l take into account your specific needs, strengths and comfort level.

My approach to therapy is holistic, which means I take in to account your body, mind and spirit. My practice is trauma informed, client centered, strengths based and draws upon Interpersonal Process and Person Centered Therapy. I believe your history does not have to dictate your destiny. You can create a life you love to live. I strive to help you remove barriers and obstacles that may be in the way of your doing just that. Your part in this process is equally as important. Ultimately, the goal of therapy is to have you bring what you have learned in sessions, outside  of the session and in to your life. At times, based on your needs, I may give you homework to work on in-between sessions; such as putting a new skill in to practice, reading an article, journaling, creative drawing, or practicing techniques for stress reduction. Our office is conveniently located in Central New Jersey, in Hillsborough Township.
